Tower of David: A credible “vertical slum”
The half-finished skyscraper in Caracas, called the “Tower of David” was abandoned during a financial crisis in the 1990s, Years later, poor residents took over the building. The Tower of David was feared as a hotbed of crime and lawlessness, yet, many residents felt differently. As a female resident stated: “They’re always saying that this is a slum, that this is dangerous, that criminals live here… that people get raped here, this and that, …when in reality, I’ve lived alone here, and nothing has ever happened to me. Never ever.” Unfortunately, the Tower of David is no more.
